Steven JUlien
Steven Julien is an acclaimed Black artist and entrepreneur whose early introduction to music came from partnering with friends in school to form MC and dance crews. Through hard graft honing his musical skills behind closed doors, he was able to attain a debut release on Eglo Records under his previous pseudonym Funkineven.
Julien established Apron Records in 2014 which marked a new phase in the young artist’s career as an entrepreneur, and has since provided a platform for artists like Greg Beato, Shanti Celeste and Byron The Aquarius to present their work at decisive points in their careers.
The aesthetic values of Julien’s work changed with debut LP ‘Fallen’ in 2016, and 2018’s Bloodline where his creative perspective entered a more esoteric, experimental space, marking the transition from Funkineven to Steven Julien; a more intimate, confident persona whose reputation as a DJ continued to grow. He has played at Panorama Bar in Berlin, Oval Space in London and Claire in Amsterdam numerous times. He is also a regular on the festival circuit, appearing at hotter than hot weekenders like Dekmantel and Dimensions.
